The Patek Philippe Watch Art Grand Exhibition begins today in Tokyo, Japan. The main news here is that this is an update to the ref. 5208, which was originally launched in 2011. Here, Patek and its watchmaking team have been able to add a split-seconds function to the watch, hence the “quadruple” in the name.

Now we have seen the 5208 in a variety of metals in the past, including titanium for Only Watch. But this 5308, with its platinum case and that killer salmon dial, really feels like a refresh for this design, and a powerful one at that. Like all of the Swiss made copy watches today, this will only be available in Tokyo in conjunction with the exhibition and is limited to just 15 pieces. It will come with two casebacks, one sapphire and one platinum – both with a commemorative inscription.

Next up is the ref. 5531R – which plays upon a deep lineage of Patek Philippe World Time replica watches for sale but adds a minute repeater by way of the self-winding R 27 HU caliber. The patented striking mechanism allows the chime to play for local time for the time zone displayed at 12 o’clock on the dial.

It is equipped with a patented differential system for managing the local-time date. According to Patek in the announcement, the date mechanism alone is made up of some 70 parts.

To solidify this as a special limited edition for the exhibition, certain design cues call out to Japan distinctly, like the red Tokyo text and Japanese rising sun emblem in place of the usual sun symbol. For those who follow the secondary market for high-end copy watches for sale, it comes as no surprise that the green dial Nautilus 5711 is exceedingly valuable — around 10 times its original retail price the last time I checked. It was part of Patek’s catalog for less than a year, and the reference disappeared from the lineup in January 2022.

The green dial is more muted in person than the press shots suggest. Depending on the light, it can look quite green (as seen here on Ariel’s arm), somewhat gray, or somewhere in between. This, in my opinion, is a good thing; it’s subtle (well, as subtle as one of the world’s most hyped top replica watches can be) and not too overbearing like some of the more colorful dials we’ve seen hit the market over the last few years.

I find that, at first glance, it’s the silhouette of the Nautilus that commands attention. The rounded octagonal bezel, the porthole-shaped case with hinge-like sides, and that beautifully executed integrated bracelet come together in an alluring form. Then, the contrasting brushed and polished surfaces draw the eyes in for a closer look.

I’ve noticed that those that meet the Nautilus 5711 for the first time are typically taken aback by how flat the high quality fake watches is. This is part of the charm of this ’70s-origin sports watch. Officially, the case of Nautilus has a diameter that measures 40mm; however, realistically we have to account for the width of the watch too due to the prominent “ears” that protrude from the sides. The width clocks in at 43mm (and over 44mm including the crown), and the lug-to-lug measurement is about 44.5mm. So, the Swiss made super clone watches wears wide, yet its slender 8.3mm height makes it superbly easy to wear, even for smaller wrists like mine.

One of my favorite components of the Nautilus has always been its integrated bracelet, and the olive-hued 5711/1A-014 is no different. It’s often been said that the Nautilus bracelet wears a lot like jewelry, and as a fan of bracelets, bangles, and any form of shiny wrist candy, I can confirm this. The combination of polished center links, satin outer links, beveled edges, and tapered form is a joy to wear and look at. The bracelet remains nice and secure around the wrist with a double deployant clasp, further secured with a fold-over lock emblazoned with the Calatrava Cross.

It’s been over a year since the steel Nautilus with a green dial (originally priced at $34,890 USD) left the company’s catalog; and although Patek Philippe introduced the white gold Nautilus ref. 5811/1G in 2022 as a replacement, because of the precious metal construction of the newest “Jumbo” iteration we’re faced with an apples-and-oranges situation. It can be easy to get carried away by the hype around the Swiss movements replica watches, whether that means immediately disliking it for what it represents or falling under its spell simply because it seems everyone else has. However, if we strip all that context away, what we have with the Patek Philippe Nautilus reference 5711/1A-014 is a wonderfully charming watch that had big shoes to fill, and, I think, did so successfully. It is certainly a sign that demand exceeds supply, hence the emergence of huge waiting lists.

If we knew that waiting lists were getting shorter, with 1:1 cheap replica watches being delivered within months not years of deposits being paid, this would certainly show supply improving, which should put downward pressure on secondary market demand and prices because there would be little incentive to pay a massive premium on the secondary when a waiting list may only be a few months.

There is growing anecdotal evidence that waiting lists are shortening, a trend I will be keeping an eye on in the coming months.

Another indicator is the supply of high quality copy watches on the secondary market itself, and here we have far greater transparency.

Thanks to WATCHPRO’s friends at Subial, a pre-owned watch specialist based in London, I have data tracking the rise and fall of inventory on the secondary market.

Subdial scrapes information from major secondary market sites, Chrono24, WatchBox, Watchfinder, Watchmaster, etc, to track not only price, but also inventory for its extremely useful Subdial 50 tracker of the most traded perfect replica watches by volume.

I have shared graphs in previous columns showing how prices rocketed for some of the hottest references between the summer of last year to spring of this before retreating sharply over the past few months.

Why? Because supply on the secondary market has plunged after spiking in March for key Swiss made super clone watches, particularly the discontinued references in the Rolex Oyster Perpetual, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus families.

This graph shows the dramatic rise in supply as speculators sensed, or engineered, the top of the market in March and cashed out at the moment of maximum profit.

An alternative theory would be that, having missed the peak, people might have simply withdrawn their fake watches for sale in the hope that another opportunity presents itself.

Royal Oak supply doubled, year on year, while inventory for the Nautilus and Oyster Perpetual was up by 54% and 34%, respectively.

Luxury replica watches that are still being made, even those with long waiting lists at authorised dealers, also saw inventories rise on the secondary market, but by much lower percentages, and this was reflected in more modest rises and falls in prices.

Whether there is, or will be, a perfect correlation between supply and prices on the secondary market is for the speculators to decide.

One thing is for sure, it is the sort of data that Gordon Gekko would be pouring over with his minions.
